Wow, thanks Tabrez! I’ll be picking that book up in the next month or so. I’ve heard great things about Robert Cialdini, but I haven’t had the opportunity to read any of his work.

Great question. What I try to emphasize is that link building is almost exponential; you have to think of it as an upward curve, and that at the beginning, you won’t be getting as many high quality links as you will 3 months later. This is because a lot of clients don’t have the relationships built, evergreen assets created, or any other of the necessary parts needed to really develop a long lasting link profile.

Agree, agree and agree. How do you manage expectations in terms of numbers of links generated each month which is what many clients still look for? Is it again about education?

Thanks for the love, Jon. It’s true, the law of reciprocity and taking a Giver’s Gain mentality into your link building strategy goes many times further than talking about yourself 100% of the time.

In many ways, link building is just a subset or networking and connecting. In that respect, we link builders should be reading the classics like Dale Carnegie’s “How to win friends and influence people” just as often as we read link building posts.
