Hey Jon

How did it go with creating the sub pages?

In my experience the more layers you put the hard it is to rank?

So the keyword “BPO Companies in India” instead of:

bpoindustry.net/bpo-companies/india

I would of made it:

bpoindustry.net/bpo-companies-india

Let me know which one you felt ranked higher?

I installed it into the root folder. You can do a subfolder if you don’t want your entire site to run on WordPress.

Hey I was wondering if you could help me figure something out. When you install wordpress into your godaddy site, did you install it in the root folder or in its own subfolder? If you put it in a subfolder, what did you do for the hompage? Thank you.

Thanks for stopping by! And the reason I do this is because this is supposed to be a static website, not a blog. This is so you have the same content on the page, giving you the ability to customize the page based on your targeted keyword, i.e. adding the keyword into a header or two, including it a fair amount in the body of the text, etc. You want your traffic to see this quality content immediately, and thus incentivize them to stay. I hope that this clears things up a bit!

You mention the importance of creating a static homepage but you don’t mention the reason. Is it simply so you don’t have different new posts rotating through your homepage (which can be prevented by editing the theme file or some plugins) or are there other reasons why it helps you rank better? Great site BTW, really useful stuff you talk about.

I’m glad I stumbled across your blog from http://www.verticalmeasures.com/content-marketing-2/link-building-vs-link-attraction/. I followed Pat’s challenge last year and a lot has changed since then, it will be interesting to see how a niche site ranks in this new search world we live in – post panda.

Currently my site is ranking well – I’ll do an update momentarily! Spoiler alert – I hit the #4 position for my targetted keyword in a week and a half after creating the domain. Why? Two reasons – exact match domain and a blogroll link from this blog (I will be removing the link once I hit #1 to show the effects of dropped links).

Hi Jon,

Great post mate – contains a lot of really good points.

Again, I will be using a very similar process to yourself. My homepage will be a static one and I will be using pages for my product reviews and articles rather than posts. My blog page will be introducing a selection of my ‘best product’ reviews along with industry news. I’ll leave comments open to enable some visitor interaction on my site.

Some of my article pages will be targeting low competition keywords to initially funnel traffic to some product reviews that have higher keyword competition, until my site gains some authority. Like you say, once you have a decent number of pages targeting lower search volume keywords, they really do add up.

Great list of On-Page SEO factors. I have put together a large list of things to cover for this too – I really want to get my On-Page SEO correct as I feel it’s important.

To begin with I will be writing my own content, which I know will be a lot of hard work. I want to make them as higher quality as possible, and around 800 to 1,000 words so they will be found for many long-tail keywords. By writing them myself, I will then have an example of how I like my content to be written when I decide to outsource.

Very much looking forward to your Link Building post as although I know many methods, I still haven’t got a decent strategy together.
