The side effects of Google’s attempt to fight links through harsh penalties are really starting to add up.
After reading this post in which a site was wrongfully accused of having spammy links, one thought occurred to me:
What’s stopping black hats from sending off these emails pretending to be their competitors?

In the wake of Penguin, I’ve been getting asked this question A LOT. I think it’s finally time for my answer.
Penguin has changed everything – oh wait, no it hasn’t. All it did was penalize those for doing what they knew was wrong, but the only difference is that Google actually followed through with some of their threats on bad links.
So what SHOULD we be doing? We know what links we SHOULDN’T be pursuing, so it’s finally time to break down the links that you can get. Keep Reading!
Creativity is such an essential part of link building. Sure, some of you might have it down to an exact science, not needing to change your ways, but for the other 99% of us who want to bring in links by the handful, you have to start thinking outside of the box.
Today’s name of the game: mix and match. Keep Reading!

The pure beauty of using Twitter as a link building tool is the ease by which you can quickly find the thought leaders and key influencers within any niche. Whenever I start working in a new vertical I try to learn more about whom these people are and what type of content are they sharing. A quick search with a service such as Followerwonk, Wefollow.com or even using a Twitter search can reveal a number of influential Twitter accounts we can utilise as a part of our campaigns. This last Thursday night I decided to tune into #seochat, a week after I was featured on it (it was quite an honor; here’s the recap!). Duane Forrester, who manages Bing Webmaster Tools, was the guy answering questions this time around. Even though I didn’t realize it beforehand, I saw this as my opportunity to ask for a Bing replacement of Yahoo Site Explorer.
But since I was so used to a search engine disregarding any type of request I might have, I went on my way, listening to the great guys on #seochat and hoping Duane would at least address my question. Keep Reading!
These last few weeks of debate over manipulating search results seem to have been the last straw for Google. After hearing the SEO community heavily discuss negative SEO, Google has decided that the only way to fight link spam is to make webmasters buy their way to the top of the SERPs.
Pay Per Rank (PPR), a new system designed to sell spots in organic search, is the final answer to the question “Is SEO Dead?” Keep Reading!
If someone recommends you follow just one person or read just one blog, then they’re flat out wrong. If someone told me that my blog is the only one they read to improve their link building efforts, I’d immediately write up a quick list of people they should follow & blogs to read.
This is that list. These are the people I learn from on a daily basis and keep me in check on what’s happening in the world of link building.
Why I created this: I get asked two to three times a week about which link builders to follow in the industry & who I’ve learned from over the years, so being able to answer them with a single URL is going to save me a ton of time. Keep Reading!
In the last week, I’ve been hearing things like “So, what DOES Google like in terms of links?” and “Everyone is telling me to build links naturally, but no one is showing me how!”
Ask and you shall receive.
Enter the brand evangelist. He or she is no different than the rest of us. They wake up every morning, go to work, and eat three square meals a day. They go online and read the industry blogs that you read, follow the industry leaders on Twitter that you follow, and in general, they do a lot of the things that you do.
But there’s one thing that separates them from the rest: They like your brand. No, actually, they really like your brand. Keep Reading!
White hats, you can finally say it: “I told you so!”
After Google finally took down a few blog networks, I think we can all sleep a little bit better knowing that what we’ve been telling our clients all these years & what we’re now seeing in the SERPs is starting to look a lot more similar.
But at the same time, another issue is on the horizon. These seemingly public outings of these blog networks have many SEOs realizing that Google isn’t just ignoring some of these network links – they’re penalizing webmasters for them. Keep Reading!
